RMH Fort Worth first welcomed families in 1981, when it occupied a historic mansion on 8^th Avenue. At the time, it had 11 family bedrooms. In the coming years, demand for rooms was so great that in 1996 a 20-bedroom house was built one block from the Harris Methodist Hospital and Cook Children’s Medical Center.

As those hospitals grew, so did the need for family housing. In 2004, RMH Fort Worth expanded to accommodate 38 families. A Ronald McDonald Family Room was also opened within Cook Children’s Medical Center.

In 2013, RMH Fort Worth expanded to a 20,000 square foot House that can now serve up to 57 families each night. In 2018, the RMH Fort Worth launched the Day Program to support families who are not currently staying at the House.
